The history of Bergen is rich and goes back to the Viking Age. During the 14th century the Hanseatic League established an offices in Bryggen. Dried Cod was a main export item. The original buildings burned down to the ground in the big fire of 1702. The wood buildings we have today are about 300 years old. The Bergenhus Fortress dates back to the mid 1200.
