On March 27th, 1980, Norway was struck by the largest disaster since WWII. On that windy and foggy morning, Alexander L. Kielland oil and gas offshore platform, capsized after one of its supporting chains snapped, As a result this disaster has taken the lives of 123 workers, most of whom were the locals from Stavanger and the surrounding areas. At that point, Alexander L. Kielland Disaster was the deadliest offshore disaster in the world's history. This traumatizing even left a painful scar on Norway, and especially the population in Stavanger. To remember those who perished, a stoic monument, called Brutte Lenke (Broken Chain) was erected, which is the one we will visit today.
