The Norwegian Oil/Petroleum Museum (Norsk Oljemusesum) is located in downtown Stavanger and offers knowledge and experiences about how the oil companies have become the country's most important industry.
Here you can learn on how oil and gas is made, and how it is extracted.
The museum has fun activities for children of all ages.
The dinosaur exhibition was the most popular to see in the museum, this exhibition will be in place until 30 September 2022.
In case you were wondering, No, neither oil nor gas is made of dinosaurs. It is mainly algae and plankton that are the organic material that forms the basis for petroleum. And you can learn all about here at the Stavanger oil museum
The museum was opened by His Majesty King Harald on May 20, 1999.
Although the oil industry has brought Norway many riches and benefits for its people, it hasn’t been without sacrifices and major accidents. The Broken Link monument commemorates the tragic oil platform out at sea that collapsed and capsized back in 1980. Despite the tragic history, the location of the monument on the Kvernevik ring where Hafrsfjord and the North Sea meet is gorgeous.
