At 71° 10′ 21″ N, 25° 47′ 4″ E lies Nordkapp (the north cape) of Norway. This is the most northerly point in mainland Europe.* Nordkapp is actually on an island named Magerøya. Standing on a plateau at the top of 307m high cliffs (1007ft) lies the globe monument which marks the end of Europe, where on a clear day you can gaze out onto to Barents Sea. The visitor centre which includes a museum, souvenir shop, post office and cafe stands nearby and is well worth a visit.

Bus trips are operated from Honningsvåg approximately 33km away. The road winds up the mountains and can easily be closed in winter due to snow and wind. We were lucky the trip went ahead as winds were strong with heavy snow showers and drifting snow. We were almost blown off our feet on arrival but luckily the winds calmed shortly afterwards. The weather can change quickly here so go prepared.

We visited on 1st December 2025 during polar night and it was an experience we will not forget and would highly recommend.
