Inspired by @KaraandNate "9 Christmas Market in 9 days", I visited as many in Norway and in Poland as I could while travelling for work. Unfortunately I missed the markets in Katowice and Krakow. This is the second of a special series which I will release over Christmas.
In Stavanger there is a neighbourhood (a frequent destination for cruise ships) referred to as Gamle (old). It is a beautiful collection of white wooden homes that are a particular style. On Dec 3rd they held a Christmas market and the weather turned it into a very special day. Gentle snow drifted down as residents sold knitted accessories, pancakes, waffles and glogg.
There was a beautiful atmosphere with loads of people shopping, wandering and socialising. What isn't and obvious is how steep of a hill Gamle sits on and how slippery the cobblestones become once snow falls. I was brave and went down one of the hills to take in a quieter street, before returning to the festive atmosphere of the main street.
Some residents and artists opened their homes. allowing me to get a peek in some of the old and beautiful homes. In this video I share my favourite one with you. It was the cellar of the home and it felt like I stepped through a portal that took me back to when these homes were new. With candles, twigs and paper crafter ornaments creating a special atmosphere. I hope you enjoy this Christmas wonderland as much as I did.
