You can't beat the panoramic seats on Nor-Way's Kystbussen top deck. It transforms the trip and doesn't cost much extra. See what we see in REAL TIME. We drive the entire 211km (131mile) trip through tunnels, over bridges and onto ferries. It's a fantastic way to see Norway.
The only downside to the trip was that I thought I'd ordered front row top deck seats on a double decker and I hadn't. A later downside was Nor-Way's refund policy. First of all I made a mistake when booking. I still don't know how that happened as I had always intended to book panoramic seats - indeed I added them to the cart on their website. I believe it's when I selected senior discount and then the actual bus time - I assumed that it had retained our panoramic seats, but changing the bus time meant a variation on the route, and no top deck. It did make for a different trip to last time and worked out well, but when I re-booked panoramic seats for our return to Stavanger a week later, I came across the unfair refund policy of Nor-Way. You can refund any seats up to 24 hours before you travel, but get this - if you booked a return, it's 24 hours before the FIRST use of the ticket, meaning we couldn't get a refund. If we had ordered single tickets each way (for the same price) we could have refunded the return no problem. Unfair or what? The moral of this story is don't book return tickets unless there is a substantial saving to be made.
Despite all that, we would of course use the service again, the drivers and buses are brilliant and customer service do at least respond!
This is the real time version of my hyperlapse video of the same trip - filmed with a dedicated normal speed camera, no music, just the sound as it was recorded.
