Constitution Day is the national day of Norway and is an official public holiday observed on 17 May every year. May 17 is referred to as Syttende Mai, Seventeenth of May in english. Nasjonaldagen or National Day , or Grunnlovsdagen, Constitution Day in english.
May 17 commenorates the signing of the constitution in 1814, when Norway declared its independence from Sweden. It is the most important date in the Norwegian calendar.
